Dad is the first man that his daughter falls in love with and the one who shows his son how to be a man. He can be our best friend, protector, provider, and a partner in crime.
Father’s Day can be a very different day for those who have lost their father or do not have a relationship with their dad. It can be a day of sadness and frustration, even anger.
Jessica and I celebrate Father’s Day very differently.
I am fortunate to be able to celebrate both my father and father-in-law. My parents live out of town, so on Father’s Day, I will celebrate at my in-law’s home where we will fire up the grill.
I will talk with my dad and catch up on the week’s events. My father worked very hard when we were little, sometimes working three jobs. We learned to appreciate the little time when he was at home and when he was home on a weekend day, it was a holiday for us. We would play games and if we were lucky, Dad would make his famous fried chicken.
He taught me to never be afraid of hard work and to never stop learning. My Dad is a self-taught man who has never stopped educating himself. When I was small, my parents bought an encyclopedia set. I watched my father read through the entire set. It is something I will never forget.
The food in this menu are favorites of both my father and father-in-law and is my way to honor them on this Father’s Day.
Jessica:
Father’s Day is coming and it is, for me, a day of remembering my best friend. My Dad was an amazing man who had many talents. He was the one who got me interested in photography. When I was 19 years old, he gave me my very first professional camera. It was a Nikon, I have had been using Nikon ever since.
Five years ago, my boys lost their father, so Father’s Day for us is a day of celebration and remembrances. We decided that as a family we would spend time remembering our fathers and instead of being sad, we would instead turn it into a day of celebration. It has made a big difference in the boys and myself to be able to take time to acknowledge our Dads and keep their memories alive and well.
My Dad lived in Seattle and loved salmon, so in celebration of my Dad we have created this menu.
Whether you are a Dad, or you celebrate your Dad in person or in remembrance, we hope that you have a wonderful Father’s Day.
