New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season this year.  With the new year upon us, I have been giving a lot of thought to New Year’s Resolutions this year. I usually do not subscribe to the whole notion of resolutions. I had to honestly ask myself “Why not?” I think for me, the answer is that I have been looking at the whole notion the wrong way.

Generally, we are looking to change something in our lives to make our life or us better. Then we set off to make large adjustments that overwhelm us, and usually do not last. At least that has been my experience.

I have decided that my resolution this year is simple: To Love Myself Just A Little More.

What does that mean? For me it means trying to look at things just a little differently. Not big huge things, but small changes throughout the year to be better to myself, to love myself a little more every day.

For example, I cook only organic, non-processed foods that are gluten free. I cook mainly from scratch because I believe that good, wholesome food is important to my family. The problem with that is I personally do not eat very well. I skip meals all the time and I tend to eat the same things in a pinch. I am literally around food all the time and just do not take the time to eat a well balanced diet. To love myself more I have to commit to taking the time to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.

I could come up with crazy resolutions and try to force myself to stick to a plan, but I know for me that will not last. Life comes along and gets in the way. However, if I decide that I can allow myself permission to love myself a little bit more today, I just may do it.

Here are some ideas I came up with on how to make it easier:

Juicing, it is quick, efficient and easy to do.

Chopping vegetables up so they are ready to eat.

Cooking up some chicken thighs or breasts. Make enough for a few days.

Cooking soup is a fantastic way to make sure you have a healthy meal.

Having leftovers is another way to ensure a good meal. Just make a little extra the night before.

Drinking water is excellent, but lemon water is even better. Cut up a lemon and throw it in a bag. When you are thirsty grab a glass of water and toss a piece lemon in there.

The idea here is not to change my life; but to change my mind. When I found out I had to give up gluten, there was no choice. I had to change my mind about food. It was hard for me to do, I had to change everything, but I did it and I am so grateful.

So for this year I have decided to take a look at myself and decide where I need to love myself just a little more today. Maybe we could all just resolve to love ourselves just a little more.
